Munsur Ali

Munsur Ali is the founder and creative force behind Moringa Studios. A film graduate of 2004, he has spent more than twenty years in the industry — starting out as a writer-director before moving into producing, and building, along the way, an overarching knowledge of film business and sponsorship gained first-hand rather than from the sidelines.

His debut film, Shongram, starring Anupam Kher and Asia Argento, was a critically acclaimed British romantic drama exploring post-colonial India and the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War. He wrote, produced and directed the film himself, and has since built Moringa Studios into a production hub covering everything from studio space to post-production to finance — a natural extension of a career spent on both the creative and business sides of independent film.

Alongside his production work, Munsur is a Member of the City of London Corporation, the governing body of the City of London — the UK's ancient and financial capital — where he served as Chairman of the Culture, Heritage and Libraries Committee. In that role, he helped oversee the City's investment of more than £140 million a year into the cultural sector.

He is a board member of the Barbican, the largest arts centre in Europe, and holds an Honorary Fellowship in Cultural Advocacy from Queen Mary University of London.

That combination — a working filmmaker's instincts and a policymaker's view of how culture actually gets funded — is what shapes Moringa Studios: a hub built by someone who has sat on both sides of the table, as a producer chasing finance and as a decision-maker allocating it.
